CHARMING ACCOMMODATION IN THE HEART OF THE PENEDÈS
Origin of the house’s name, Can Ferran
In 1714, during the War of Succesion, Ramon de Rialp and Safor, born in 1670, was lieutenant colonel of the cavalry Regiment of the Austrian troops (supporters of the Archduke Charles of Austria’s claim to the Spanish crown). He was exiled in Vienna after the victory of Philip V and before the New Plant Decree. After making a will in favour of his son, he died there.
The Rialp lineage in Penedès had started at the beginning of the XIV century.
King James the Just rewarded Guillem Bernat of Rialp with important properties in the Alt Penedès area after the latter had accompanied Prince Alphonse, the King’s heir, on the first expedition for the conquest of the island of Sardinia, where he arrived on 12th June 1323.
In 1830, the lieutenant colonel of infantry, Miquel Rialp Llorens, made significant changes in restoring the ‘big house’ and the ‘small house’, unifying them with a single façade. He established his seat there and in royal recognition of King Ferran VII, christened the house with the name of Can Ferran.
